Great weather for dramatic shots at the moment.
This was in the Bourne Woods. A man out walking his dog.

Tuesday 21st Jan up on the ridge overlooking Frensham ponds. The fog was so thick you could hardly see anything
Both these shots were processed using Nik Software Viveza 2. I'm really liking this plugin for Lightroom. Lightroom 5 is fantastic but I seem to prefer the results I get when using the Nik Plugins. The control points work so well and I like what structure does more than the clarity slider in Lightroom. Not sure whether they are directly comparable but they do seem to try and bring out detail. As with all these different pieces of software, they have the areas in which they excel  so I guess the secret is to use the best bits of all of them.

Bending Trees

I created a image called growing towards the light. See it here  using freehand movement of the camera. I wanted to revisit this concept with my new Sony A7mkii which I've now had for several months. This time, however, I wanted to use a tripod and 2 heads to give me more consistent movement. This image below is one of the results of that shoot. I had to adjust the various angles of the set up to give me the picture I wanted and this is one of the ones I really like. More thoughts on the Sony A7mkii another time. I'd love to hear your comments. Simon

I spent the Sunday photographing The Redbull Timelaps which is a 25hr cycle race. 25 hours because this was the night the clocks went back. I really admire the riders, support crews ad organizers as it was really cold with several periods of rain during the race. It's raced in teams of 4 so you have turns out on track. It's a horrible yet strangely challenging thought to have to cycle for a couple of hours then get cold and stiff and then have to go out again. I wanted to capture the movement and speed of the riders so I used a panning technique which blurred the background. You have to try and pan at the speed the riders pass you so you can keep them relatively sharp. Believe me there were many misses but I did manage to get quite a few shots that I'm really pleased with.  Here's just a few so you can see the effect. I hope you enjoy them.
